Eat Like a Marylander

This summer, Eat Like a Marylander!

Eating local is a common phrase heard over and over – but what, and who, does it really benefit?

When you purchase food from your local farms and markets, you are:

  • Reducing carbon emissions because the food is traveling less.
  • Supporting farmers and their staff who live in your neighborhoods!
  • Eating more seasonal food which means it is at its peak deliciousness.

Maryland has diverse offerings of local foods for you and your family and friends to enjoy! On this page find on-farm experiences, summertime recipes, and restaurants that are dedicated to serving locally grown and sourced foods. When you bite into a perfectly grilled burger or sweet corn, make sure it’s from Maryland!

Maryland Buy Local Week

July 18 – 28, 2024

Welcome to Maryland Buy Local Week during which all things local – from cheese to cut flowers – are highlighted to encourage Marylanders to Buy Local! We are challenging you to make the pledge and commit to buying one local product every day from July 18 through July 28.  Buying local can look like a visit to a farmer’s market to purchase locally grown produce, meats, and other goods to dining at a restaurant that sources local ingredients. And to make Buying Local even easier, the Maryland’s Best team has put together a full list of items locally produced – and where to find them.  Take the pledge today and support Maryland agriculture!
